This year’s MATCHA WAZUKA comes from Uejima-san, a longtime tencha grower in Uji who’s been at it since the late ’80s. Like most farmers in the region, his leaves usually get sold off and blended into larger “Uji” matcha batches. But this lot is different.

We worked with him to source from a small, half-wild field he inherited—land that had been mostly overlooked until now. By paying directly for this specific harvest, it’s become worth tending again, and you can taste that care in the cup.

The blend is mostly mountain-grown samidori, known for its depth and sweetness, balanced with a touch of his prized yabukita for structure. The result is a smooth, grounded matcha with low bitterness, steady sweetness, and a full, savory umami. The powder is a deep, vibrant green, and when whisked, it opens up into something aromatic and alive.
